Lots of us have oily and combination skin, which means we typically find our T-zone (we’re talking forehead, nose and chin here) seem to grip less to makeup, become oily super quick and are a pain-point for us when it comes to makeup application and lasting wear.
It’s these struggles that inspired our PoreFilter collection. Three products formulated to blur pores, mattify skin and increase the wear-time of your makeup.
Wondering how to use them, and how to finally get that oil-free, mattified and long-wearing makeup you’ve been dreaming of? We’ve got all the tips!
How do you Mattify oily skin with makeup?
The first step is to ensure skin is clean and cleansed, and after applying your moisturiser (don’t skip this step even if you do have oily skin!), prep your base with a mattifying primer, like our PoreFilter primer. This will help to absorb any excess oil, and give an instant mattifying effect before applying foundation.
Our PoreFilter primer is also enriched with Niacinamide and Green Tea extract to nourish and fortify skin whilst controlling oil. A little tip is to press the primer gently into your skin, focusing on areas you feel your pores are more enlarged.
How do you keep your makeup matte all day?
We find a 3 step process to be the most effective when it comes to mattifying makeup that lasts all day.
- Mattifying Primer before foundation.
- Mattifying powder after foundation and concealer.
- Mattifying setting mist after applying all your base makeup.
Keep your powder with you all day too for touch ups on the go. A pressed powder like our PoreFilter powder has a compact mirror making touch ups (if needed) super easy.
How do I stop oil coming through my foundation?
Use a mattifying pressed powder
After applying your foundation and concealer, use a powder brush, puff or sponge for your pressed powder. Press your desired tool (we love the puff that comes with our PoreFilter powder) into the powder, and gently press into areas of your face you want to mattifying and set. Popular places are typically under the eyes to set concealer, and around the T-zone where skin tends to get oily - the forehead, nose and chin. This is an essential step to stop oil coming through foundation.
Use a mattifying setting spray
A micro-fine mist like our PoreFilter mist contains fine powder and oil-absorbing agents to help mattify skin whilst helping set and seal your makeup throughout the day. The multi-tasking mist is also formulated with hydrating Hyaluronic Acid along with pore-reducing Niacinamide making it suitable for oily and acne-prone skin. We recommend opting for a setting mist that also contains hyaluronic acid, because although you want to mattify your makeup and control oil, you don’t want your skin to become dry, dehydrated and patchy.
How to use a mattifying setting spray
After you have finished all the steps in your routine, use your mattifying setting spray. This is the ultimate step to keeping your makeup matte, even if you have oily skin. Another little hack we have, is to use a mattifying setting spray before, and after powder application *trust us*.
- Step 1: Shake the Bottle to ensure the formula is all combined. Be sure not to shake too hard though.
- Step 2: Spray in an X- and T-Formation across your face, whilst keeping the bottle 6-8 inches away from your face.
- Step 3: Let the mist dry for a few moments. Apply more if you feel necessary, but make sure not to over-saturate skin.

What is the difference between loose powder and pressed powder?
The ultimate difference is the way loose and pressed powders are packaged. Pressed powders are compact, and considered more convenient for on-the-go, for example; our PoreFilter pressed powder has a mirror and powder puff making touch-ups super easy! Pressed powders also give more accurate and precise application.
Loose powders are normally packaged in jars or tubs (like our Vitamin Babe loose setting powder), and whilst slightly less convenient for on the go touch ups, they still give a flawless finish.
If you’re targeting oily areas of your skin, our pressed PoreFilter powder will be perfect for precise oil control!
